about
In the late 1970’s, the seafood selection available in St. Louis left something to be desired. Bob Mepham recognized a need for fresh seafood in town, so he decided to open an outdoor market in the Delmar Loop. Bob took weekly trips down to the Gulf of Mexico to purchase seafood. He would leave St. Louis every Wednesday and return the following Saturday with a refrigerated truck full of fresh seafood to sell to retail and wholesale customers.
Bob and his wife continued their Bob’s Seafood “Market in the Loop” seafood stand for nearly ten years and incorporated in the early 1980’s. Around 1987, as local wholesale orders started to grow with flourishing restaurants, hotels, and country clubs, the Mephams moved their shop to an indoor facility on Delmar.
Finally in 1998, after 20 years of traveling to and from the Gulf Coast, Bob ceased his weekly trips and started having seafood flown and shipped in from vendors all over the world. In 2005, Bob’s Seafood moved from the Delmar location to the current store at olive and I-170. With more space and a more accessible location, Bob’s Seafood is better equipped to serve their retail and wholesale customers now and in the years to come.
